“While the bar is known for its drinks, there is also food on offer that’s much more than something to go with a few cold ones. Head chef Rob Spasojevic has honed the art of bringing sophisticated flair to familiar feel-good food, and this is reflected in his menu.
It’s a compact menu with enough to keep you going through the night. The crisp beer battered chips with aioli and spiced tomato relish are hard to go past. I’m a chip connoisseur, and I rate these as seriously good.
The other standout on the starter menu in the lime and sweet chilli prawn cutlets. The skewered prawns were perfectly cooked and wonderfully tangy. A great combination and a good dish to share with friends.
The steak sandwich is a huge favourite on football nights when the bar really gets going. And who could resist steak, bacon, avocado, tomato, lettuce, melted cheese and caramelised onion on toasted flatbread with chips?
Our mains choices on the night were crispy skin salmon fillet with fetta, olive, tomato and caper salad with a citrus sauce, and 400 g grain-fed rump steak with mushroom and red wine ragout, rocket and parmesan salad, and some of those delicious fries on the side. Both were well-balanced and well-executed meals that were a pleasure to eat.
This isn’t complicated food but it’s good, and that’s what you want if the night is more about drinking and having a great time than a fine dining experience.”
